Comments:The Saffron United Pipe Band will be hosting a contest on Feb. 15th at the A.O.H. Hall in Babylon, N.Y. This years contest will be a duet consisting of one piper and one drummer playing a medley. This event has usually been a very organized and very well attended evening that is a lot of Fun for the players and the audience. It will serve to spotlight some very talented players as well as serve as a warm up for others playing at the Metro Cup later in the month. We also are lucky to puut the spotlight on a lot of really great drummers. One event will be for members of Grade 1 and 2 bands, the other event will be for Grades 3,4,& 5. The contest will be judged by audience so bring your friends and family. Tickets will be $15.00 including beer and soda. Entries will be limited to five duets per event. For more info call Eric M. Comments:Dear Alice +Sons When Jimbo passed, a flood of fond memories of people and events swamped me. Band members from those early days in the '70s such as Tommy Murray, Nocko Donavan,Dave Brown; Rob Goin, Tom Mc Alister, and PM Donald Cutter whom Jim has now joined, left some great hilarious memories of incidents past. The Most outstanding one relating to Jim was a Fire Dept. Parade out East, when just a sparce few showed up. We debated whether to call it a day or "hang tough" + try to make it work. Jim Had The answer, without saying a word, he goes up the street makes a phone call to the Fire station that some two car loads of members were in an accident leaving Babylon and while there wern't any serious injuries the cars were immobilized!!! The Fire dispatcher calls the Chief at the parade and informs him of the matter. The Chief comes to me and says it is ok to go with what we got, not to worry. as he was leaving, Jim is returning. They have a few words, Jim looking amazed thanks the Chief. He gives me one look and says "Form UP"-off we go! P.S. Two weeks later at another parade for the same Dept some members of the Dept come over to Jim and myself asking how the guys are? We look at each other and say fine, thank you; see a full complement for todays parade! Suffice to say that there were some other Situations that had us laughing in the Beer Tents of Long Island. He was indeed the BIG GUY who could and would "Bull"his way through! God hold him in the palm of His hand. IT was a great honor to have his friendship through the years. Don.

Comments:I'm terrifically saddened to learn of Big Jim's demise and would offer that he (and the Ryan/American Celtic family) were a significant part of my pre-teen and teenage years and I've got some great memories of Jim leading us in umpteen parades in the late 70's/early 80's...I spent a lot of time in that big van with him and the Ryan family...Best of luck in the tough months ahead, my family's thoughts and prayers will be with Alice, Tommy, Snoop, Padraig all of the Ryan family...so sorry I learned of this too late to get down to the funeral home to lend my support and memories of this fine man.
